The hospital has come up with a proper infrastructure worth 84 lakh for setting up the plant, which would not only cater to its oxygen needs but of other medical institutions too.

“We will make the plant operational in two days if we get the required equipment for producing oxygen as all other prerequisites are already in place at the hospital,” said hospital’s medical superintendent Dr HS Rekhi.

Notably, a similar plant will be set up at Government Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar.

He added that the proposed plant will be able to produce 20,000 litres of oxygen.

Meanwhile, one of the officials said the state government has already sent the file for approval to Centre, but has not received any response yet.

“After a go-ahead, an order will be placed for the import of oxygen generation plant as the formalities have been completed so far,” he said.

It may be mentioned that following the increase in demand of medical oxygen in state hospitals due to the sudden surge in Covid cases, even chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has urged the Centre to immediately facilitate setting up the plant.

No dearth right now, says medical supdt

With the influx of Covid patients at Rajindra hospital, the authorities are claiming that there is no dearth of oxygen supply as they have sufficient storage of liquid medical oxygen (LMO).

Medical superintendent Dr Rekhi said presently, the hospital has 12,000 litres LMO plant and small oxygen generator having capacity of 6,000 litres.

“Around 250 patients are presently admitted in the hospital and all are provided with the required oxygen needs. Moreover, we have also kept an oxygen tank on standby in case of emergency,” he said.

COVID-19 Second Wave In India May Peak By Mid-May, Predict Scientists At IIT

COVID-19 India: In predicting that the active cases would go up by about 10 lakh by mid-May before sliding, scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and Hyderabad applied the 'Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive), and Removed Approach'' (SUTRA) model.

New Delhi:

The ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India may peak between May 11-15 with 33-35 lakh total 'active'' cases and decline steeply by the end of May, according to a mathematical module devised by IIT scientists.

On Friday, India saw a single-day rise of 3,32,730 (3.32 lakh) COVID-19 infections and 2,263 fatalities with 24,28,616 (24.28 lakh) active cases.

In predicting that the active cases would go up by about 10 lakh by mid-May before sliding, scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and Hyderabad applied the 'Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive), and Removed Approach'' (SUTRA) model.

The scientists also said Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Telangana may see a high of new cases by April 25-30, while Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh might already have reached their peak in new cases.

"We have found that there is a reasonable chance that the active cases in India could peak sometime between May 11-15 with 33-35 lakh cases. It is a sharp slope, but on the way down, it would likely be equally sharp, coming down very fast and by end of May may see a dramatic reduction," Manindra Agrawal, professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT-Kanpur, told news agency Press Trust of India.

The scientists in the as yet unpublished study said there are several novel features in the SUTRA model. Whereas previous papers divided the patient population into asymptomatic and Infected, the new model also accounts for the fact that some fraction of asymptomatic patients could also be detected due to contact tracing and other such protocols.

Earlier this month, the mathematical modelling approach predicted that active infections in the country would peak by April 15 but this didn't come true.

"The parameters in our model for the current phase are continuously drifting. So it is hard to get their value right," said Mr Agrawal.

"Even a little bit of change each day causes the peak numbers to change by several thousand," he explained.

The IIT Kanpur professor added that the SUTRA model's prediction of the new peak is sensitive to the daily new infections data.

"Any excessively precise prediction, of a peak within just a five-day window would ignore the many uncertainties associated with the inputs to any such calculation," Mr Menon, who was not involved in the modelling, had told news agency PTI earlier.

Laxmmi Bomb trailer: Akshay Kumar promises scares and laughs in equal measure

Laxmmi Bomb, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, premieres on Disney+ Hotstar on November 9.

The trailer shows Akshay Kumar’s character getting possessed by the spirit of a woman, and he then starts acting like one since his body is under her control. While the film is trying to create the mood for a horror-comedy, it reminds us of old Hindi movies where the transgender community was represented in quite a stereotypical way. It is yet to be seen if Laxmmi Bomb will avoid those clichés and tell a story that’s sensitive to all genders concerned.

Towards the end of the trailer, Akshay also channels the classic Ashutosh Rana scream from Sangharsh that still sends shivers down our spine.

From the trailer, it is quite evident that Laxmmi Bomb is trying to balance the story with some situational comedy and songs.

The movie premieres on Disney+ Hotstar on November 9.

Hathras Victim "Deserves Justice, Not Slander": Priyanka Gandhi Hits Out

The 20-year-old woman died in Delhi last month during her treatment for horrific injuries she had sustained after shewas assaulted by four men of her village on September 14.

New Delhi:

The attempts to defame the 20-year-old gang rape victim from Hathras by holding her "responsible for crimes committed against her is revolting and regressive", Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said today, condemning the fresh allegations and theories that have emerged in the alleged gang rape and murder case in Uttar Pradesh that has drawn angry protests across the country.

The woman deserves "justice not slander", the Congress General Secretary tweeted using hashtag "shameless" BJP.

The 20-year-old woman died in Delhi last month during her treatment for horrific injuries she had sustained after she was assaulted by four men of her village on September 14.

The Congress leader's remarks came after a letter by one of the accused blaming the victim's family of beating her to death over their "friendship" with one of the accused emerged.

Sandeep Thakur, the main accused in the case, has written to the police, claiming that the girl sustained injuries after she was beaten up by her family over their "friendship" and were now trying to frame him for his death. "Apart from meeting, we used to speak on the phone once in a while," he wrote in the handwritten letter to the UP police on Wednesday. He alleged that her family did not like their friendship.

The  Uttar Pradesh police, citing call records, has claimed that the victim's brother knew one of the accused and some 104 calls were made between them from October last year to March.

The victim's father has denied the allegations made by the accused. "I have lost my daughter. Now they are trying to malign us. We are not afraid. The allegations are totally false. We don't need want any compensation or any money.

On Wednesday, a Special Investigation Team or SIT, set up by the Yogi Adityanath government, was given 10 more days to deliver its findings.  The three-member team questioned the woman's brother. "We have no contact with them. We have only one phone in the home. If the police has the audio of the calls, they must produce them," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government has been under intense attack over its handling of the case - which also saw late-night cremation of the victim allegedly without family's consent and for barring media and politicians from meeting the victim's family -- which has led to massive protests across the country.
