NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, urging the apex court to monitor a CBI probe into the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras. The state government, in its affidavit, explained in detail the investigation carried out by it in the case so far. It alleged that "vested Interests" are attempting to ascribe motive to derail a fair probe. The affidavit comes on a day when the top court is scheduled to hear a PIL seeking an investigation into the role of police officials and registration of FIRs against them in connection with the Dalit woman who died a fortnight after being allegedly gang-raped in Hathras district. The state government's affidavit said a "vicious" campaign was unleashed in social media, TV and print media to defame UP government.
